Forty years ago next month, President Ronald Reagan committed the United States to develop a missile defense system that would render nuclear weapons “impotent and obsolete.”

In so doing, Reagan adopted the proposal of Lyndon LaRouche to use science and technology to free the world from the utopian Hell of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD).

The British Empire, George H.W. Bush, the Soviet leadership and the U.S. Democratic Party combined to derail the Reagan/LaRouche policy for Mutually Assured Survival, and consequently, a great potential for human progress was set back.

Much has changed in the 40 years since March 23, 1983, but the principles on which LaRouche based his concept of what became known as the Strategic Defense Initiative, are still relevant for solving today’s crisis.

In this Saturday’s LaRouchePAC class, Bruce Director will discuss the history of the SDI and its lessons for today.
